Factorial analysis of the Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale in a sample of Mexican university students

Keywords: psychological well-being, Psychometric Properties, Confirmatory factor analysis, Construct validity, University students

Abstract

Ryff conceived the psychological well-being from eudaimonic keys, constructing for its measure the Psychological Well-Being Scales that include six dimensions. This scale has been used in countries, age samples, languages and versions in terms of the number of different ítems so its validity has been tested, because the factorial solutions vary considerably.  The purpose was to analyze the factorial validity of the main theoretical models of well-being proposed in the literatura, to determine which of them presents the most satisfactory adjustment levels in the Mexican university population Method. The PWBS was applied to 1400 students from 10 bachelor's degrees from the Autonomous University of Mexico. The models were tested  through a confirmatory factorial analysis, total reliability was calculated and by areas from Cronbach alpha and omega Results: Two satisfactory factor adjustment structures were found one of 4 factors (17 items) and another of 6 factors (20 items) , with adequate general ratios of reliability and indices by areas ranging from 0.642 to 0.604 and 0.442 to 0.754 respectively  Conclusions: Two valid versions of the well-being scale are proposed to evaluate the construct in Mexican university students
