Abstract

This study aimed to examine the emotional impact of a guided tour of the Geopedregal, the first restored geosite at UNAM, located within Ciudad Universitaria. A total of 100 participants took part, classified by sex, age, and academic major. Emotions were assessed before and after the experience using a 12-item semantic differential scale designed to measure different emotional dimensions. The one-hour tour (±10 min), which addressed the site's various ecosystem services, was organized into nine interpretive stops. The repeated-measures ANOVA results showed a significant increase in positive emotions after the experience across all groups (sex, age cohort, and academic major). Regarding sex, although an initial difference was identified between men and women, this variation was no longer evident at the end of the tour. With respect to age cohort, significant differences were found between younger participants (18–20 years) and both young adults (21–30 years) and adults (31+ years); the latter two groups reported higher emotional levels after the tour. Finally, students from majors other than Biology reported higher emotional impact than Biology students in both the pre- and post-tour assessments. Collectively, these findings indicate that guided tours can influence affective states and contribute to emotional well-being among a wide range of participants.
