Abstract

The aim of this study was to assess healthy lifestyles and their relationship with self-efficacy and quality of life in psychology students from the Altos Sur region of Jalisco, Mexico. A quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive-correlational design was used, with a non-probabilistic sample of 175 university students. The instruments applied were the Practices and Beliefs on Lifestyles Questionnaire, the General Self-Efficacy Scale, and the WHOQOL-BREF Quality of Life Questionnaire. Results showed that 61.7% of students were classified as having a healthy lifestyle, 37.7% as less healthy, and only 0.6% as very healthy. The lowest-scoring dimensions were physical activity and sports ( = 1.11; SD = 0.51) and self-care and medical care ( = 1.31; SD = 0.47), while the highest were non-use of psychoactive substances ( = 2.20; SD = 0.51) and leisure time management ( = 1.85; SD = 0.42). Positive correlations were identified between lifestyle, self-efficacy, and quality of life. In conclusion, students showed generally adequate lifestyles, although factors such as studying and working simultaneously or living away from their hometown could be associated with lower self-care practices. The relationship between self-efficacy, healthy behaviors, and quality of life was confirmed.
