Abstract

Objective: To analyze the correlation between fear of COVID-19 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder in university students. Method: Quantitative, cross-sectional, correlational, analytical study, using the measurement instrument on fear of COVID-19 (FCV-19S) and the measurement instrument on Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7). The sample consisted of 414 people from a population of 500, systematically selected, not randomly, in Mexico. Result: fear of COVID-19 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder are positively and significantly correlated (r=.28, p<.01); the findings between the perception of fear of COVID-19 and Generalized Anxiety Disorder, between men and women, turned out to be significantly higher in women. Conclusions: The fear of COVID-19 is confirmed as an antecedent variable to Generalized Anxiety Disorder, the goodness-of-fit indices of the structural equation model were found at a good level: Chi2=182.94, gl=76, p<.000; Chi2/df=2.41; RMSEA=.08; GFI=.81; NNFI=.97; NFI=.97; IFC=.97; IFI=.97; RFI=.96.
